If you've had a chance to look through the 2012 Sale-a-Bration Brochure, you've probably seen the gorgeous Fresh Vintage sample on page 6. Gorgeous as it is, my first thought was "all that coloring - oh my". I love the image, but was not thrilled about the time involved to color it with markers.
So...monochromatic card to the rescue! I grabbed my In Color Pool Party Classic Ink and started stamping. Here's what I came up with...
Dawn's Stamping Tip: I stamped the image 3 times along the edge. I started by stamping the center image upside down. Then stamped the left and right images upside right to create a border.
For my next card, I wanted to "step-it-up" a little. I added a little texture with the Square Lattice Texture Impressions Embossing Folder and a couple of Rhinestone Jewels for a little bling. Take a look...

Do you sometimes get "splotchy" stamped images? I sometimes do, especially with solid image stamps. In today's Quick Tip Video, I share tips on getting clear, sharp images for successful stamping.
Actually, this all started when I received a question from a reader...
Question: How do you get such a clear sharp image from your stamps? I always have to make 3 or 4 attempts before I get an image that I'm proud to use. If you have a secret, are you willing to share? The quality of the SU stamps is so much better than others, but I'm still having trouble. Thanks . . . Vivian
Answer: That's a good question. But here are some suggestions...
1. I do make sure I ink up my stamp really good. (also make sure you your inkpads aren't drying out) 2. I hold my stamp on the paper/cardstock for awhile - like 3-4 seconds 3. For solid stamps - I lightly sand them before using for the first time. It seems to remove the manufacturing film and lets the rubber "grab" the ink better.
But sure enough, no sooner did I respond to her question, I too was having trouble getting a good image for this card.
I kept getting "splotchy" images. It does seem like the larger, more solid the image is, it takes a little more finesse to get a good image. Even with the tips above, you still might have some areas which would tempt you to toss it out. On the video I share some tips for "saving" your splotchy images. Get out your blender pens!

Today's card features a Quick Tip Video (just 2 minutes)! Learn how to customize Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter and take your card from drab to FAB!
I know - the glitter doesn't show up well in the picture above. Take a look at the ornaments below. Isn't it COOL?! Such an easy and quick way to take your card up a notch!
Yes, I know...Day #3 is late. My day completely got away from me and since there was the Control Freaks tour yesterday...I gave myself permission to let it slide. Wow, that is so unlike me. But it's good for me to let go sometimes. Ok - that's too much information for you :). Let's get on with the celebrating!
On to day #3 of our DOcelebration! Today's card took another cue from YOU my readers. Remember DOcelebration Day#1? I asked you, "What is your favorite new Stampin' Up! In-Color?" Well, over 100 people shared their favorite (yes, I read them all. I always read all my comments). It sounds like for many of you, your favorite new color is the same as mine...Wisteria Wonder. However, I was suprised at the number of people who said Calypso Coral was their favorite. I have to admit, that it is my least favorite. In fact, I hadn't even opened my inkpad yet. The horrors!! So, what do you think I did? Yes - I opened up my pad and got stamping! Take a look...
Love & Care Hand Drawn Framed Notecard
I needed to make a large number of Thank You cards for customer orders and product share customers this month. I really wanted to use my favorite Stampin' Up! hostess stamp set "Love & Care" (from the Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Catalog ending August 31st). So I combined it with Calypso Coral (and Lucky Limeade) and it didn't turn out half bad.
Most times my stamping style is what I call "middle of the road". But I also like clean and simple stamping too. And this simple one-layer notecard fits the bill. What I like best about this card is the hand-drawn frame that was done with a Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker. I was inspired by a few other cards I had seen that had a hand-drawn frame. For mine, I created my own template and I did a "quick tip" video to show you how I did it (includes tips for the frame, clear block positioning and huffing).
Stamps: Love & Care Hostess stamp set Ink: Calypso Coral, Lucky Limeade, Basic Black Paper: Whisper White Notecards and Envelopes (#107311) Accessories: Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker, 4-1/4" x 2-3/4" tracing template

Love & Care Hostess stamp set, Notecard & Envelopes AND yes, today's project too!
How to Enter: Leave a comment on this blog post. Share what is your stamping style. Are you clean and simple, over the top or middle of the road (like me)?
Yes, again with my favorite, Stampin' Up!'s On the Grow stamp set. Are you getting sick of it yet? I hope not. Today's card is a Sketch Pad DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge...provided by Jan Carlson. She does a great job with our sketches...thanks Jan!
With a sketch like this one, plus a simple and fast coloring technique (which I share below)...this card went together pretty fast! Check it out...
The Designer Series Paper is called Elegant Soiree (#117163)and is retiring! I'll be sad to see it go. It's a beautiful paper and will be missed. Be sure to get it now before it's gone for good on June 30th.
So how did I color the flowers?
I know I didn't invent this technique. But I don't know if there is a name for the "coloring technique" I used on the flowers. Maybe we can call it "Blended Lines". Hmm...that sounds good, what do you think? See below for my how-to tips...
Dawn's Stamping Tips - Blended Lines
1. Stamp a line image with Perfect Plum ink
2. Use a blender pen and immediately blend the lines of the flower images. Meaning, pull the ink from the stamped flower lines inwards to "fill" the flower with color. Act quickly before the ink dries.
3. Step it up, by adding Stampin' Up! Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to the flowers with a 2-Way Glue Pen

Last week I shared a square On the Growcard using Stampin' Up! Framed Tulips Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Since then - I've received several inquiries on how I made it square instead of the standard rectangle. Let me tell you - it's SO easy to do. Be sure to check out the quick video.
Here's another example of the square Framed Tulips:
The flowers in the center are embossed using the new Stampin' Up! Flower Garden Textured Impressions Embossing Folder with vellum cardstock. I used our neutral brads to attach it to the So Saffron scallop square (Scallop Squares Duo #120903) - no adhesive.
The "Hello" is from the Happy Greetings stamp set (2011 Summer Mini Catalog) and is punched with the newer small oval punch (#120908)
Isn't this cute? What a wonderful way to say "Hello"!
The minute I saw the new Stampin' Up! "The Open Seas" set, I thought of the Shadow Block Stamping Technique. Really - any stamps that lend themselves to a "collage" look, work great for Shadow Block Stamping.
Dawns Stamping Tip - Shadow Block Stamping
1. Ink up Clear Block D in Crumb Cake ink 2. Stamp onto Very Vanilla cardstock 3. Stamp additional images "collage style" over the "shadow" created in previous step
