Stampin' Up! Convention

Hi!  I'm here in Salt Lake City, UT at the 20th Annual Stampin' Up! Convention.  This is my 5th convention and I just know it's gonna be a blast.  My downline Laurie Z has joined me this year and we're gonna have the best time ever!!

Our flight left at 8:10am this morning and we arrived around 10:00am (non-stop flight...love it!)  After checking our baggage at the hotel we headed over to the convention center to get our convention bag.  Wanna see it?  Wish I could share a picture with you, but I forgot my computer camera adapter - darn!

The most exciting part about getting the convention bag is...

THE BRAND NEW 2008 FALL WINTER CATALOG.  Oh my gosh - you're gonna love it!  More about that in my next post...it's so cool

We also received a convention pin (Laurie, the newbie will get "my first convention" pin too), pen, notebook, etc.

PLUS - new stamp sets!  Three brand sprankin' new sets... one with butterflies, one with cornflowers (gorgeous) and the other with a variety of floral stamps.

We had a visit to momento mall, the Stampin' Up! souvenir shop.  Picked up some adorable items!  Can't wait to share it with you all.  Then off to Riverton, UT to tour the Stampin' Up! corporate office.  Then quickly off to our Splitcoast Dinner with fun swapping and door prizes.

OK - so I'm pretty darn tired.  Tomorrow will come fast and we have a full day of activities, make & takes and awards night.  Oh - which reminds me...I have something awesome to share.

Bye-Bye "Little Pieces"

I'm gonna miss another retired set, "Little Pieces" (top of page 116).  I know - it's just little shape set.  But I really liked it!  It's great for making quick and easy background pieces for most any type of card, whether Christmas or Birthday.  Here are a couple Christmas cards I made.  The tag features a past retired stamp set.

Retired PMS (Pizza, Music & Stamping) Stamp Camp

Last Friday night 10 ladies and 1 guy enjoyed a fun night of Pizza, Music and Stamping!  This was my annual Retired Stamp Camp.  We made 15 cards, 3 of 5 designs.  See below for card samples...(some of which were inspired by SCS.)

Tip:  Use the eraser end of a pencil to create the dots over "Happy Birthday"!  Just dip into an inkpad and "stamp" onto cardstock.

July Technique Tuesday Projects

Below is project #1 for July's Technique Tuesday class.  This is a special class that I do for my Stamping Club Members.  

This month's class featured the "Pretties Kit"..  There are so many fun things that you can do with the Pretties Kit.  Here's a display of the pieces you get with the kit (you'll receive several of each piece). 

PROJECT #1

This technique features "Flower Altering".  To demonstrate how one color can look used with different coloring tools...both cards feature the flowers altered with "Orchid Opulence".

The instruction card below features two ways to alter your "Pretties Flowers".   The larger flower uses Orchid Opulence for the Stampin' Pastels (chalk).  The smaller flower use Orchid Opulence Stampin' Write Marker.  Notice how you can achieve different shades of the same color by using different color tools.

The next card features brushing Orchid Opulence ink on with an Aqua Painter.

Bye-Bye "Sweet Shapes" - Funny Story

OK - one of fun things about the Stampin' Up! convention is all of the display boards!  There are tons of samples on display.  Some samples are from people that Stampin' Up! chose several months prior to convention to make very specific samples to display at convention.  These people are called "Convention Display Artists".  More about that in a later post.

However - most samples are from the everyday demonstrator that sends in their artwork to Stampin' Up! for monthly demonstrator contests or drop off samples to share at SU events through-out the year.  The later is generally what I do.  On to the fun part...of those samples that SU receives, they select some to go on the convention & regional seminar display boards.  A few years ago I started seeing some of my "drop-off" samples showing up on the boards - woohoo for me!.  So now it's kinda fun looking at the display boards and coming across one of your own samples. 

So on to the card.  This card must have been one of my drop-off cards (I don't always remember what cards I drop off - my memory fails me more often these days...LOL!)  Because at last year's convention - I came across it displayed on the boards.

You're asking, "What's so funny about that?"  Well - here it is on the display board. 

Hmm...can't see the card?  Let me come in closer...

Oh - there it is!  I kept looking at it, saying to myself..."that sure looks familiar, but I don't remember submitting a tag!"  Then it hit me...it was on a card and must have fallen off.  They must have felt it display worthy - even if it was only a tag!
