Technique Tuesday: Matchbox Die & Jumbo Grommet (Tutorials)

The last project we did for April's Technique Tuesday Class was with the Matchbox Die.  I received a similiar swap in my last Controlfreaks swap group.  I adapted it to the supplies I had on hand.

Box-closed

OK - so if you don't yet have the Matchbox Die from the Occasions Mini catalog (#114890, $42.95) - you'll want to get it!  And if you order it this month, you can choose an "Under $10" Item for free! AND get a free catalog if you order it online!  Woohoo!

How To:  Matchbox Die Assembly

For my "To Go" class packets - here's a couple of little tutorials on how to assemble your box and use the new Basic Jumbo Gromments  (also from the Occasions Mini Catalog #114348, $6.95 for 5 of four colors, total of 20).

Step #1:  Fold on all scored lines, then fold inward the "sides" as show in the photo.

Matchbox-2

Step #2:  Fold the "ends" to "wrap over" the preforated corners.  The very tips of the ends should be folded the opposite way.  These small "tabs" are what keeps the box together without adhesive.

Step #3:  Use Sticky Strip to adhere the cover together, then slide the box into it.

How to:  Basic Jumbo Grommets

Step #1:  Press the grommet into the flower.  TIP:  Use the mat pack to protect your surface.

Step #2:  Turn over and hammer the "prongs" flat.  Use the mat pack again to protect your surface.

Step #3:  Thread both ribbon ends up through the center of the grommet and tie off.

Smile Max!

It was my Grandson Max's 2nd birthday today!  We'll be celebrating on Saturday...we can't wait.  In the meantime - I was looking at pictures from Easter and just had to share.  I think the pictures speak for themselves.

Doesn't he have the sweetest SMILE?

Hmm...check this out.  This is what he does when you say, "SMILE FOR THE CAMERA!"

In case you need a closer look...

The funny thing is...he actually THINKS he's smiling!  He makes us laugh every time!

I hope his "smile" brighten's your day!

Under the Stars: Flying Bear!

OK - ever since Brent Steele demonstrated the "Flying Bear" card at the 2008 Convention, I've been wanting to do it at one of my Technique Tuesday classes.  I've been trying to figure it out.  But I just couldn't wrap my head around the concept as he described it.  So I stopped trying and just made it work.

Flying-Bear-Card

Here are the steps I used to create the card - hope it makes sense!

Step #1

Step1

Start with stamping the bear three times(from Under the Stars stamp set #111556, $29.95).

Step #2:

Cut out the "full bear" without the arms.  Then cut out each arm (make the arms longer as shown in the picture below).

Step2

Step #3:

You'll need a "stick".  I used leftover chipboard.  Attach both of the arms to the stick with a brad.

Step3

Step #4:

Stamp the bear onto the front of your card (WITHOUT the arms).  At his mouth, make a "slit" wide enough to slide the stick into.

Step4

Step #5:

Use brads to attach each arm to the card.

Step5

Step #6:

Add Stampin' Dimensionals to the back side.  NOTICE: the dimensionals on either side of the stick.  TIP:  notice the half circle punch-out at the bottom of the card - (this is so you can grab the stick to move up and down).

Step6

Step #7:

Add Stampin' Dimensionals to the back side of the bear that was cut out from Step #2.  TIP:  Use 2 stacked dimensionals at the top of the head and the bottom of the body.  (This is so the stick has room to move up and down).

Step7

Step #8:

Adhere the bear to the front of the card.

Step8

Step #9:  Make your bear fly by moving the stick up and down.

Manhatten Flower Textured Impressions Die: Vellum & Glitter

Here is one of this month's projects from my Technique Tuesday Class.  I love all of the samples I've been seeing of the Manahatten Flower Impressions Die being used with vellum cardstock and thought, hmm...what if I add glitter?  You know, glitter makes everything better!  What do you think?

Gilittery-Flower

Just use a Two-Way Glue Pen and add glitter!

Envelope Scrapbook: Good Morning Sunshine DSP

As you can probably tell - Max (our grandson) is such a delight to us!  Who ever thought being a Grandmother would be sooo wonderful.  He's actually turning two this week!

For part of my Minneapolis Regional Presentation I showed additional envelope scrapbooks made with different size envelopes.  This one was made with Stampin' Up! Medium Square (5-1/2 x 5-1/2)envelopes for Max's 1st birthday and features the fun Good Morning Sunshine Designer Paper and Hooray Designer Hardware.

Tip for envelope inserts:  Be sure to size them at least 1/2" smaller than the envelope you're using.  This will make it easier to slide in and out,  without tearing your envelope.

We taught him "SO BIG" months ago, but we got it on camera finally!  Perfect for his first birthday!

Fold-Out

Notice the Ribbon...I used it like a "belly band" (so it slips off).

I have one more to share for a Mother's Day theme, so watch for that.

Enjoy~Dawn O
