DOdesigner: Pixie's Thomas the Train Card

Today I'm featuring Pixie Elletson from my DOstamperSTARS group.  Her grandson LOVES trains and of course Pixie has "fed" this love!  What else is a grandma have to do?

She has brilliantly used Stampin' Up! paper and punches to create this one-of-a-kind handmade card of Thomas the Train.

Speaking of trains & grandsons...I took this cute picture of my grandson Max this weekend.

 

See what else he's holding that goes everywhere with him...let me introduce you to Puppy!  Clever name, huh!

He's a got a few favorite stuffed animals, all with "clever" names.  Here's how the conversation goes

Umma (that's me):  Max, what's your dog's name?

Max:  Puppy

Umma:  Max, what's your cat's name?

Max:  Kitty

Umma:  Max, what's your seal's name?

Max:  Sammy, the seal (from the book)

Umma:  Max, what's your wolf's name?

Max:  Wolfie

Umma: Max, what's your tiny puppy's name

Max:  Pokey Little Puppy (from the book)

So, there you go!  You've met all 5 of his little stuffed friends.  If he could - he'd take all 5 of them with him everywhere he goes.  But for now - it's only Puppy, Kitty and Pokey Little Puppy.  Wolfie and Sammy stay at our house waiting for Max's visits!

Controlfreaks Spring Blog Tour

Welcome to the Controlfreaks Spring Blog Tour!  Robin wowed you with some fabulous projects. And now I'm excited to share a couple of fun Daisy projects with you today. 

  

When I think of spring, I think of flowers.  Especially Daisies!  So, I decided to have some fun playing with Stampin' Up!'s Flower, Daisies Die #2 (for the Big Shot) and came up with a couple of outside-the-box ways for using the die cuts.  One of the cool features about the Daisy die is you get THREE different sized Daisies from it!  Gotta love that!

   

 So, while I was playing with the Daisy Die, I was reminded of dry embossing with die cuts.  I've seen a few samples of the dry embossing with punch-outs & die cuts, but I wanted something that would create an even deeper impression.  So, using the smallest Daisy flower, I handmade my own Texturz Plate!  Woohoo - so exciting. 

   

Here's my custom made "Daisy Texturz Plate".  A little worn from wear, but still works.  Ain't it cool?

Supplies:  Picture This (Hostess Level One from Occassions Mini), Basic Black cardstock and ink, Crushed Curry cardstock and Ink, Whisper White Cardstock, Sponge Dauber, Big Shot, Flower-Daisies #2, Impressions Pad, Silicone Rubber Pad, Curly Label Punch, Black Gingham Ribbon, thin chipboard

For my next project, I used the middle sized Daisy.  For durability, I die cut it with heavier cardstock - like Confetti Cream (which is a heavier weight than Stampin' Up's Whisper White).  I used the Daisy cut-out as a "mask" to randomly sponge "daisy shapes" on my card.  I LOVE the way this turned out!  PLUS - SO easy!

Blog Challenge Green: How about a Frog!

My DOstamperSTARS are having some creative challenges going on and one of them is to make a card using the color GREEN.  My first thought was of frogs.  So below is a card I did at one of my Getting Punchy Classes last summer that was a HUGE hit!

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dawns Stamping Tips
Eyes:  Use 1/2" White & 1/4" Black, layered on Small Oval (retired).  Then 3/4" green circles are layered behind the eyes and the small oval
Word Bubble:  Use the Wide Oval punch and the "Sliver Technique" to get the "hook" for the Word Bubble.
Mouth:  Draw with black marker

Supplies used:  Full of Life (111500), Certainly Celery, Old Olive, Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise cardstock, Basic Black cardstock, ink & marker, Big Shot & Top Note Die, Gold Brads, Stampin' Dimensionals.  For punches, see recipe card

Controlfreaks & Spring are Coming: Mar 20th

     

Spring...I thought it would never come.  MN is finally starting to warm up, the snow is pretty much gone.  Just a few small piles here and there!

Stampin' Up! Mini Milk Carton Birdhouse & Video

I've been inspired by tons of Stampin' Up! Mini Milk Carton birdhouses!  They are everywhere and SO adorable!  Just had to make one, but I wanted it to be a decoration for an Easter tree. 

My mom used to do an Easter tree.  She'd find a branch in the yard.  Stick it in a vase and hang cute little decorations on it.  She would have loved this little Milk Carton Birdhouse!

Here's a video  on "how to assemble a birdhouse."  You find a SUPER QUICK tip for folding the Mini Milk Carton too.  You'll be amazed at my genious! LOL!
