This week's challenge is a nautical challenge.  I first reached for the anchor image in The Open Seas stamp set.  But it was a little small.  Then I remembered the new Guy Greetings stamp set from the Occasions Catalog - it has a larger anchor image.  Exactly what I was looking for!  Plus with all the greetings in that set, I was bound for find the perfect greeting too!

Today's card has a unique fun fold called Corner Flip.  It's a fairly easy fold to do, but a little hard to explain in writing.  A How'd She DO That? video is in the making and will be coming soon.

I really wanted a "knot" embellishment.  The only knot I can remember from my Girl Scout days is the square knot, so that's what we have here .  It's "anchored" down with a Glue Dot (front) and a Stampin' Dimensional (back), so it doesn't slide off.

I think my Dad will enjoy this card on Father's Day.

DOstamperSTARS Thursday Color Challenge #132: Work of Art Butterfly

It's time for another DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge.  This week we're having a Color My World challenge.

"Totally Girly" - that's what I thought when I saw this week's color combo.  What's more girly than butterflies and flowers...right?

The "wavy" image from Work of Art was inked up with Stampin' Write Markers.  Stamp once, and stamp again without reinking. See below for the butterfly feature...

Negative Butterfly Flower Medallion

  • Adhere together Whisper White 1-3/8" Circle & Crisp Cantaloupe Flower Medallion
  • Hold flower punch-out with your thumb and middle finger - at the widest point
  • Slide into Bitty Butterfly Punch while still holding onto it, thumb and finger on either side of the punch (like shown below)
  • Position the flower in the punch while still holding it, so your thumb and finger are aligned about in the middle of the butterfly image (like shown below)
  • And...punch!
  • You might not get it just right the first time, so punch a couple extras.  I'm sure you'll get the hang of it after a couple tries.

Here's the Crisp Cantaloupe version.  Couldn't decide which one I would like, so I made both colors.

We made these cards on Mother's Day when my grandsons were over.  Everyone had something to do...Max and Sam help fold the cards in half and punch the white circles.  Angie punched flowers and negative butterflies.  I did the stamping and voila - it all came together fast!

As Max was helping me write up today's post, he says to me, "These are fun Umma.  You could make a lot of cards using just these three colors.  Well...and white too."

When I asked him which one was his favorite, he replied, "I know pink is for girls, but I like that one the best!"  

I just had to smile!

Oh My Goodies: Create a Frame Stamp!

I'm having a little crush on the Oh My Goodies stamp set lately (did you see Monday's card).  But, as I was looking over the images, I didn't think I'd ever use the phrase, "Live Well, laugh hard, Love Big".  Does anyone ever really say that?

However, I really like the "outline frame" image and thought, "hmm...I wonder if I just cut out the words"?  I know, it's a scary thought, to cut up a stamp.  But I really didn't think I'd ever use the phrase...., so if I wrecked the words, I would be OK with that.  I just REALLY wanted the outline frame image and to be able to use it quickly and easily.  So I did it!  Got out my Paper Snips and snipped away at it.  It's not pretty, but it's functional.  And...I love it!

Here's the results.  I was able to "save" the words.  They'll actually fit back inside the frame, just in case I change my mind (you never know).  Now I can "frame" away.  Imagine all the things you could frame with it!

And then I made a card that I actually didn't frame anything, go figure.  Instead, I paired it with the Beautiful Bunch stamp set and Petite Petals Punch.  Add a greeting and you're ready to go!

The paper is from the Stacked With Love Designer Series Paper Stack again (from the Occasions Catalog, ending June 2nd).  I couldn't decide on the card layout...landscape or portrait?  So I made both.  Which do you prefer?

If you take a closer look, you'll see the centers of the flowers are "dots" from the Cupcake Builder Punch.  They are a nice addition.

Oh My Goodies: Happy Umpteenth Birthday

Oh My Goodies!  I think this stamp set was designed as tags for goodies/treats.  But I'm lovin' it for cards right now. Plus, I think "Happy Umpteenth Birthday" is funny, and so did the gals at my Card Buffet class, as this card was a huge hit!

The pattern paper on this card is from the Stacked With Love Designer Series Paper Stack.  Even though it's designed for a "love" theme...remember to "flip it over" and you'll find all the backsides are black and white, giving this paper lots of versatility!

With a color scheme like this...I think this card would be great for both guys and gals, and even teenagers...don't you think?

Look really close...closer!  Do you see the staple (under the twine)?  Yup - again with that Handheld Stapler, Dawn!  That's right - it's my favorite tool right now.   And it's my favorite way to add Baker's Twine.  Just lay a piece a twine across where you want it.  Staple it down.  Then tie a bow.  I'm finding it much easier to tie a bow, as the staple keeps it in place, yet allows me to slide the finished bow left or right, for perfect placement.  Give it a try, I think you'll like it.  Don't forget to add the Silver Mini Staples to your order too.

DOstamperSTARS Thursday Color Challenge #130: Mixed Bunch

It's time for another DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge.  This week we're having a Sketch Pad challenge.

Well it became quite obvious with today's sketch that I should make a floral card.  So that's what I went with.  I chose my favorite stamp set and punch combo; Mixed Bunch and matching Blossom Punch - both retiring.

In addition, I chose bold colors; black & red, with touches of green & yellow.  The banner measures 1-3/4" x 4-1/2" and is from the retiring Back To Black Designer Series Paper.  The greeting is from the retiring Regarding Dahlias stamp set.  See below for tips to make the flower...

Mixed Bunch Flower:

  • Stamp Mixed Bunch Flower with Real Red (on Whisper White) and punch with Blossom Punch
  • Punch Old Olive with Blossom Punch - cut apart 2 "leaves" and attach with glue dots
  • Punch Basic Black with 1" Circle Punch
  • Stamp center image with Stazon Jet Black and punch with 3/4" Circle punch
  • Attach punch circles together and adhere to center of flower
  • Attach black Candy Dot (from neutrals) to flower center
  • Adhere flower to card with Stampin' Dimensionals

Mixed Bunch is definitely one my favorites that I will miss.  Be sure to get yours and the matching Blossom Punch before it's gone for good!

With the anticipation of new Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog coming June 2nd, I thought I'd share some important catalog transition dates/information:

How to get a new 2015/2016 Stampin' Up! Annual Catalog     20150106_Occasions_en-US

June 2nd is the day!!  

Day for what?  It's like a special catalog day - meaning...

  • LAST day for the 2015 Occasions Catalog
  • LAST day for the 2014/2015 Annual Catalog
  • FIRST day for the 2015/2016 Annual Catalog - woohoo!!

Online Store information

  • June 2nd - the online store will be doing maintenance from midnight to 2am (MT)
  • June 3rd - the online store will be doing maintenance from midnight to 2am (MT)

How to get a free Stampin' Up! catalog?  

  • If you're a current club member (local or online), then you'll automatically qualify for a free catalog from me
  • If you're an active customer with me, you too will automatically get a free catalog from me.
  • If you are not an active customer with me and would like to receive a free catalog, just place an order of $50 or more by May 1st to get on the first round of shipping.
  • Catalogs should arrive to you near the end of May
  • If you don't have a Stampin' Up! demonstrator and would like to purchase a catalog for $6.00 (covers postage only), contact me at [email protected]  I'll send you a paypal invoice on May 20th.

Punch Art: Max's Rocket Ship Birthday Card

My grandson Max celebrated his 8th birthday yesterday.  Typically we wait until his party to give him his gift, but as he's having his tonsils and adenoids removed today (and will be out of school for a week), we thought he could use his birthday gift and Rocket Ship Punch Art Card while recovering. (Note: everything went well and he's already home; tired and sore, but resting)

Max is totally obsessed with space right now, so we got him a set of books by Lucy & Stephen Hawking, aimed at kids 8-12.  Let's just say...he loved them!
