Dawn's Favorite Sale-a-Bration: Big Day!

I know, I know...everyone loves the Lotus stamp set from Sale-a-Bration.  And I do too.  It is a beautiful flower.  But...I really really like the Big Day stamp set.  It's one of the free Sale-a-Bration choices with a $50 order.

Here's two cards that use the FREE Big Day stamp set.  They are basically the same card, with a few changes.

Here's basically the same card using a Smoke Slate card base.  But also features a 2-1/2" punched window and moved the greeting to a different location on the card.

The cake was colored with Blendabilities Stampin' Markers.  Lovin' these markers, as they make even me look like a color artist (not my strong suit).  With 3-color packs (light, medium, dark), I can add "artistic shadows" without even thinking about it!

Butterfly Basics: Leadership Swap

I'm in Orlando for a few days for the annual Stampin' Up! Leadership Conference.  Always a fun time to be had when you're with Stampin' Up! demonstrators.  They are some of the nicest people around and I'm fortunate enough to call many of them my friends!

Last night we enjoyed a fun evening at the Disney Hollywood Studios.  Tons of yummy desserts, an awesome private showing of the light & water show called Fantasmic and time to vist with old friends and make a few new friends too!  These gals came all the way from Europe and were so sweet and kind to me.  I thoroughly enjoyed their company!

Always nice to chat with Shelli Gardner (CEO & Co-Founder of Stampin' Up!).  Her and her staff always make us feel so special.  It's one of the many things I love about my "job" and Stampin' UP!

Of course, you all know who this is...the Disney gang!!  A fun photo op!

 

Here's one of my swap cards, another fun part of any Stampin' Up! event.  This card was a popular choice at my Card Buffet local class.  It's easy to make, yet is striking.

DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge #117: Beautiful Lotus

It's time for another DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge.  This week we're having a Color Challenge!  

This week's color combo just screamed flowers (at least to me).  So I pulled out the brand new Lotus Photopolymer stamp set (a free Sale-a-Bration choice with a $50 order) and literally just started stamping.  Usually I hmm and haw about layouts and such.  But as I was short on time, I told myself...just play with the image and see what comes.  And boy - it happened fast.  The card came together just like that and I'm lovin' the results.  I may have to talk to myself like that more often - ha! 

Lotus Stamping Tips:

Let's talk a little bit about this unique stamp set.  Why do I say unique?  For a couple of reasons.  

1. It's a 3-step stamp set
2. The stamp sheet it comes on has #'s for each of the stamps so you know which order to stamp them in
3. The stamps have a "positioning tab" on them (mount on the block with tab facing in the "north" position) - helps to position all three stamps correctly
4. The stamping is all backwards.  At least from the way I used to teach about 2-step stamping.  I generally teach people to start with the lighter color first, then stamp the dark color.  However since it's photopolymer, a see-thru clear stamp - you actually start dark and work to the lighter color.

Here's what I did :

• Image #1 is stamped with Blackberry Bliss
• Image #2 is stamped with Rose Red
• Image #3 is first inked with Rose Red, stamp off on scratch paper first, then without reinking - stamp to complete the flower image

DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge #116: Groovy Love Cookie Inspiration

It's time for another DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge.  This week we're having a Home Sweet Home Challenge!  

What a yummy inspiration photo we have this week.  From the colors, shapes, decorations and more, there's lots of different ways a person could go. For me, I chose to focus on the colors (red, pink & chocolate) and of course hearts!

Dawn's Card Tips:

• I pulled out the fun Groovy Lines stamp set, stamped with Strawberry Slush and punched out with the matching Sweetheart Punch.  
• The large heart is from the Hearts Collection Framelits.  Stamp the "outline" heart from Groovy Lines with Chocolate Chip onto Blushing Bride cardstock.  The cut with heart framelit with the Big Shot.

 

• The Bakers Twine (Early Espresso & Blushing Bride) were attached to the heart with the new Handheld Stapler.  Then tie both at the same time.  
• Add the Red Glimmer Paper heart with Stampin' Dimensionals  (use heart from Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack).
• Stamp greeting with Early Espresso and cut with the Big Shot using the Bitty Banners Framelits
• Add Happy Hearts texture to 1-1/4" x 5" piece of Early Espresso cardstock.  Attach to cardbase.
• Enjoy!

Clean and Classy Wetland Greetings

For my Just Card Buffet Class this month, I reached for a Stampin' Up! "oldie but goodie", Wetlands stamp set.  Well, it's not that old, but it is a great set with nice nature styled images and three standard greetings.   Love those sets that have images paired with greetings!

 

For the ease of creating sand and water, I reached for the versatile Work of Art stamp set and stamped the "curved swatch" image with Sahara Sand and Pool Party inks.  Quick and easy, and my kind of coloring!

The card is finished off with the greeting punched with the large oval punch and a touch of Baker's Twine.  The twine is attached to the card with the new Handheld Stapler, then tied off.  I think it's a nice touch...don't you?

I'm always looking for a nice masculine card, but I'm sure anyone would enjoy receiving this card.
