DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge #210: Tin of Tags Metallic Holiday Card

It's time for another DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge.  This week we're having a "Product Spotlight" challenge.  

DOSstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge #210-Product Spotlight

What a fun challenge...Metallics!  And boy oh boy, Stampin' Up! has a lot to choose from...doilies, embossing powders, foil sheets, thread, enamel shapes, sequins, glimmer paper and more!  For me, I landed on Gold Embossing Power.

 I haven't heat embossed in a long time and I thought it would be fun. I grabbed the snowflake from the Tin of Tags stamp set (retiring soon!) and got to creating!  In no time at all, I had this metallic beauty.  Check it out...

Stampin' Up! Tin of Tags Metallic card by Dawn Olchefske for DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge #DSC210 #dostamping

Tin of Tags Metallic Snowflake Card

  • Stamp snowflake (from Tin of Tags - retiring) several times with Versamark Ink on 4-1/8" x 5-3/8" Basic Black cardstock.  Sprinkle with Gold Embossing Powder (remove excess) and heat until melted.
  • Stamp greeting (from Star of Light) with Versamark Ink on 3/4" x 2-3/4" Basic Black cardstock.  Sprinkle with Gold Embossing Powder (remove excess) and heat until melted.  Adhere to 1/2" x 2-3/4" strip of Gold Fold Sheet.  Punch 1/8" hole and tie off with 8" of Baker's Twine Trio Pack (retiring)
  • Adhere greeting to snowflake panel with Stampin' Dimensionals, then to folded 11" x 4-1/4" Basic Black card base.

Another great last-minute card.  Sometimes those are the best!

Greetings From Santa: Candy Jar

I haven't been doing much shopping yet, as I can only tolerate it for a short time with my knee replacement.  But I needed to get some ink for my printer.  So off to the office store, where I discovered small old fashion style canning jars.  I can't resist unique styled jars.  Plus the lids were different colors...fun!  I knew I could find a use for them and here's what I came up with using the Jolly Hat Builder Punch and Greetings From Santa stamp set.

Greetings From Santa Candy Jar

  1. Stamp greeting (from Greetings From Santa stamp set) with Real Red ink on scrap of Whisper White.  Cut with 2" Circle Punch.
  2. Create Santa hat using Jolly Hat Builder Punch, Real Red cardstock and Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper (and glue dots).  
  3. Adhere hat to circle with Stampin' Dimensionals, then adhere completed circle to jar lid with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  4. Wrap Candy Candy Lane Baker's Twine around lid and tie in a bow.
  5. Fill jar with candy.  I used five Lindt Lindor Truffles (my favorite holiday candy!)

Recently I held my Holiday Stamp-a-Stack Class.  As I was preparing for the class, I came across a card on Pinterest (by Rhonda Macpherson) and immediately knew it would be perfect for the class.  Then as I looked at it some more, it's also perfect for today's photo inspiration...don't you think?

Quick & Cute Warmth & Cheer Star card

  1. Adhere ribbon strips to folded Cherry Cobbler 11" x 4-1/4" card base (3" Burlap ribbon, 3-1/2" & Gold Natural Trim) - using SNAIL or Glue Dots
  2. Die cut 3rd largest star from Warmth & Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack using Star Framelit Dies.  Adhere over ribbon with Stampin' Dimensionals.
  3. Stamp greeting (from Oh, What Fun stamp set) on Whisper White cardstock with Cherry Cobbler ink (I did mount the image to the block in a slight curve fashion).  Cut with Duet Banner Punch.  Adhere with Stampin' Dimensionals

Warmth & Cheer stars die cutting Dawn Olchefske #dostamping

You can get 4 stars out of each 6x6 piece of Warmth & Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack.  Timesaving Tip: as this paper is thinner than cardstock, I was able to cut 3 sheets at a time.  Cutting 12 stars in no time at all...yay!  

This is a perfect last-minute holiday cards, which I need a few of...off to make more!

Shaving Cream Technique with Cookie Cutter Santa

It's been a long time since I've done the Shaving Cream Background Technique.  When my friend, Kelly suggested it for my club class, I thought it was a great idea.  I paired it with the Cookie Cutter Christmas Bundle for a from holiday card!

Shaving Cream Background Technique

  • Spray Shaving Cream (white foaming cream) into a container (like a foil pan or I used an older "clamshell" case that Stampin' Up! used to use to hold their stamps in)
  • Use the Real Red reinker to squeeze 3 or 4 drops of ink around the shaving cream.  Use a plastic knife and swirl the ink around the shaving cream until you get the desired swirl look.
  • Press 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" piece of Whisper White cardstock into the shaving cream swirl.  As you lift off, keep facing down and pull across the edge of your container to pull off most of the shaving cream.
  • Flip over and use a paper towel to remove the rest of shaving cream.
  • Let dry (maybe a couple minutes)
  • Note:  each time you add another piece, it will look different.  You can re-swirl around and add more drops of ink if you like more color.

Cookie Cutter Santa Tag

  • Stamp greeting with black ink at bottom of 4-1/8" x 2" tag that is cut with the Scallop Tag Topper Punch.
  • Place strip of Candy Cane Lane Designer Washi Tape above greeting.
  • Stamp Santa image with black ink on a scrap of Whisper White cardstock.  Color with Real Red Stampin' Write Marker.  Cut with Cookie Cutter Builder punch.  Adhere to tag with Stampin' Dimensionals
  • Thread Candy Cane Lane Baker's Twine onto tag and tie in a bow.  Adhere tag to card with Stampin' Dimensionals
  • Cut off one pom pom and adhere to Santa's hat with glue dots.

When you're doing the shaving cream technique, the shaving cream goes a long way.  Add more drops of color as you go along and re-swirl.  A perfect technique for mass-producing holiday cards!
