Featured STAR: Laurie Zoellmer Occasions Catalog Projects

In the coming weeks, I'll be sharing some of my DOstamperSTARS projects with you.  We had a local get-together a few weeks ago and had a great time visiting, eating (potluck), sharing business tips and lots of creative ideas.  Then we ended with a Shoebox Swap - everyone brought a card for everyone else to make.  Tons of fun!

I'm gonna pick a couple of favorites today (though it was hard to choose!).  I'm choosing two and they couldn't be anymore of a diverse choice.  I love everything about Karla's clean and simple card - colors, layout, etc!

DOstamperSTARS Challenge #165: Stained Glass Rose Wonder

It's time for another DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge.  This week we're having a Color My World challenge. 

Stained Glass Rose Garden

• Big Shot "sandwich" from bottom:  Multipurpose Platform, Precision Base Plate, cardstock, die, cutting pad 
• Using Rose Garden Thinlits to die cut Basic Black "outline" pieces.:
  • (1) small rose 
  • (1) three leaves image from the large rose/leaves thinlit (cut away one of the leaves)
  • TIP: Remove detailed pieces using the Big Shot Die Brush
• Die cut colored pieces:
  • (3) small roses from Blushing Bride, Melon Mambo, Rose Red cardstock
  • (2) three leaves image from Garden Green, Wild Wasabi cardstock
  • TIP:  DO NOT REMOVE detailed pieces - keep die cut in "one piece" and slide onto piece of copy paper underneath to keep everything together (see photo below)
• Assemble flower:
  • Position (do not adhere yet) black rose & leaves onto 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Whisper White.  
  • Use a pencil inside the images to draw an outline.  Remove die cuts and add adhesive all over the area within the outline.  (I used snail adhesive)
  • Now adhere black rose/leaves die cuts into place and continue on by filling in with the various colored pieces to complete the flower/leaves.
• Enjoy!

(leave pieces together and slide copy paper underneath)

Add Clear Wink of Stella for a beautiful touch of glimmer.  The photo does not do it justice.  In real life - the shimmer is gorgeous!

I hope you enjoyed this card.  I actually began playing with it and along the way discovered some of the tips I shared above.  I think you'll find they will help save time as you put all the pieces back into place - just like a puzzle.

Limited-Time Sale-a-Bration: Sky is the Limit

The Sky is the Limit stamp set combines masculine images with four sentiments, giving you lots of flexibility with this set.  Whether birthday, valentines, anniversary, graduation and more...there is something for everyone!  

This QC card (quick & cute) came together fast once I decided on the layout.  The layout is a modification of one of my favorites!  Sometimes when working with a new stamp set, you gotta just pull out your old bag of tricks and do some warm-up stamping.  I think it worked...don't you?

 Here's a closer look at...

• Add texture with the new World Traveler Texture Impressions Embossing Folder.
  • Note:  due to the position of the folder, the texture doesn't go all the way to the top when in the "portrait" position.  But I actually liked that look and it gave me space to stamp the clouds.
• Use Basic Black Archival Stampin' Pad for nice crisp stamped images.
• Use my favorite tool, the Handheld Stapler to attach the twine, then tie a bow.

I think this card is a keeper.  I showed it to my husband for his reaction, as I knew it would remind him of his father, and we had a nice conversation about how his Dad carried around these tiny little bi-plane game tokens.  Any time a handmade card can bring back memories and start a conversation...I think that's a good thing!
