Milwaukee On Stage Shoebox Swap Samples

I found that I hadn't shared the cards from a shoebox swap event I held with my DOstamperSTARS team at the Stampin' Up! Milwaukee On Stage event.  These gals all came in from the surrounding states... MN, WI, IL and MI - worth the drive!  We actually teamed up with my friend and fellow demonstrator Susan Campfield's team for a fabulous swapping & pizza event.  Here's some of their swaps.  As you'll see, the lovely "Remarkable You" stamp set was a favorite!

DOstamperSTARS Challenge #164: Botanical Builder Flowers

It's time for another DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge.  This week we're having a Home Sweet Home challenge.

For this week's photo inspiration, there are lots of inspiration to choose from...color, the blanket, the yarn the lamp and more!  I focused on the flowers on the lamp and the color scheme.

Like I shared last week that I wasn't a fan of the Botanical Builder Framelits Dies.  But now that I've been playing with them...oh my, I've lovin' them!   For this card, I started by cutting a set of flowers and leaves from Marina Mist, Soft Sky and Rose Red cardstock.  With only 3 passes through the Big Shot (with Precision Base Plate), I had tons of die cuts to play with.  TIP:  place all the dies on one sheet of cardstock for quick cutting!  Then just play!  I mixed and matched until I found the combos I liked.  Then used a little sponging to give them a some depth - Marina Mist for all the blue die cuts (use a light touch when sponging the Soft Sky die cuts).  White Perfect Accents complete the flowers!

At the last minute, I decided I wanted to give the leaf edgelit a try (it comes with the set).   I liked the way the Crumb Cake cardstock popped, when it was adhered to the Rose Red card base.  And lastly - the greeting is from the new Birthday Blooms stamp set.

If it wasn't for today's photo inspiration, I never would have selected this color combo.  Seriously...blue leaves?  But I think it works.  Definitely took me outside my comfort zone.  And sometimes, that's a good thing.

One Great Year Photo Frame Calendar & Sticky Notes Video & PDF

I'm excited to share today's project with you!  The idea comes from when I first joined Stampin' Up! (over 12 years ago) and acrylic photo frame desktop note pads were all the rage.  I thought it would be a perfect vehicle to hold a One Great Year Paper Pumpkin kit calendar, but in a different way.  Take a look...

So fun, right?!  Plus - super quick and easy to put together.   You'll need a 4" x 6" acrylic horizontal photo frame, which I found at a dollar store.  Just slide in one of the calendar base sheets from the kit and decorate away!

I made a few of these for family and friends, and wanted a box to put them in.  So I came up with a simple gift box.

The frame fits in the box nicely with room to place the calendar pages in separately.  They are easy to take on and off, as shown in the video.  The video below does include a demonstration on how to make the gift box and more.

With all the bulk of 12 finished calendar pages AND the stand too, I wasn't sure if it would fit.  But, it all fit nicely in a Wood-Mount Full Size Stamp Case.  Just wrap some Gold 5/8" Satin Ribbon around the case and made a tag with some of the leftover die cuts and voila...a quick & cute package!

As this stamp set doesn't include any greetings, I reached for a past Paper Pumpkin kit called Wish Big for the greetings for both of these cards.  The Wish Big Kit is still available for purchase (if you're a Paper Pumpkin subscriber...that's one of the perks of being a subscriber!)

DOstamperSTARS Challenge #163: Botanical Gardens Bundle

It's time for another DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge.  This week we're having a Sketch challenge.

When I saw this week's challenge (several month's ago) - I fell in love with the simple layout.  I knew I would use Designer Series Paper as the main panel and probably some kind of flower.  With the release of the New Botanical Gardens Collection - I knew right away this layout would be perfect for it.  Take a look...

I'm right, right?  Stunning!  The beautiful flower is paired with the new Botanical Gardens Designer Series Paper (3-1/4" x 4-1/2").  With a strip of Basic Black cardstock (4-1/2" x 5/8") going down the left side - it shows off the flower just perfectly.  Adhere it all to an Old Olive card base and everything just pops!

The greeting...that's from the new Rose Wonder stamp set, which is filled with not only gorgeous flower images, but beautiful greetings too (also comes in a bundle Rose Wonder Bundle with coordinating Thinlit Dies (140804).

True confessions time...I have to admit, when I first used the Botanical Builder Framelit Dies at the Milwaukee On Stage Event, I wasn't a huge fan.  That flower with the cut out petal centers really wasn't doing it for me.  So today I played a little bit with sponge daubers and ink (Cajun Craze, Old Olive).  That gave the flower and leaves a little bit of depth and aah...now, I'm lovin' it!  Just that little detail added so much.  Definitely get yourself some sponge daubers and give it a whirl.

What's that in the center of the flower?  It's a White Perfect Accent colored with a black Sharpie Marker.  The perfect touch (ha, get it...Perfect Accents, perfect touch. oh, never mind...lol).  I was giddy with excitement when I adhered it to the flower...love it when things work out as you see them in your head.

This QC card (quick & cute) came together fast once I decided on the layout.  The layout is a modification of one of my favorites!  Sometimes when working with a new stamp set, you gotta just pull out your old bag of tricks and do some warm-up stamping.  I think it worked...don't you?

I think this card is a keeper.  I showed it to my husband for his reaction, as I knew it would remind him of his father, and we had a nice conversation about how his Dad carried around these tiny little bi-plane game tokens.  Any time a handmade card can bring back memories and start a conversation...I think that's a good thing!
