MN State Fair: Sam and Max on a Stick Easel Card

One of my favorite places to visit is the Minnesota State Fair.  We don't go every year, but we did go this year.  We pretty much eat our way through the fair.  My favorites are the corn dogs (the ones made out of corn bread batter - yum!), mini donuts, cheese curds and fresh strawberries with cream.  My husband's favorites are the foot long hot dogs with grilled onions, deep fried candy bars on a stick and cotton candy (yes, cotton candy).

This year we got to tag along with our grandsons Max and Sam.  Which meant we spent some time in the Kiddie Midway.  Here's some pictures of the day...

GroupPhoto

Their favorite ride was the Ferris Wheel.  It was the first time either of them went on it and they really enjoyed it.  Check out their smiles...priceless!

Max&Sam

I wanted them to have a little token of the day, so I put together a fun little "picture on-a-stick".  Attached it to a simple easel card and put it in the mail for a fun little surprise for them.  I think they are gonna love it!  Hmm...I should have made two of them...one for each.  What was I thinking?!

1.PushPin-Note-Reminder-35 Dawn's Stampin' Tips:  Simple Easel Card

Easel cards are SO easy.  ANY size card can be turned into an easel card

1.  Fold any size card in half
2.  Then fold the top of your card in half again (folding to the inside of your card)
3.  Attach a little "stop" to the inside of your card (for the easel to rest again)
4.  Viola...instant easel card!!

Normally, I would have attached a picture or decorative front layer to the bottom half of the outside of the card.  But for this card - I used the retired Horizontal Slot Punch to create two "holes" to hold my "picture-on-a-stick" to the card.  This way, they can pull the stick out and play with it.  he he!!

Reflection Technique Video with Stampin' Up! Lovely as a Tree

Today I'm showing how to achieve stunning results with just a stamp, ink and a Window Sheet.  It's called the Reflection Technique and I was amazed at just how easy it is to do!

When was the last time you used your Stampin' Up! Lovely as a Tree stamp set? It had been awhile for me.  But each time I use it, I remember why I got it in the first place, as it is lovely! And it's perfect for the Reflection Technique.

    Lovely-as-a-Tree

    1.PushPin-Note-Reminder-35 Dawn's Stamping Tips - Reflection Technique

    1.  Ink image and stamp onto cardstock
    2.  Ink image again and stamp on clear Window Sheet
    3.  Flip stamped Window Sheet over so image is facing down
    4.  Carefully line up image w/first stamped image to create a "reflection"
    5.  Place onto cardstock and rub over it to transfer the image
    6.  Color grass and water using sponge daubers

Mosaic Tile Stamping with Stampin' Up! The Open Seas

You won't get seasick with today's card.  It uses Stampin' Up!'s newer circle dies (3 inch #122125  and 3-1/2 inch #121811) to create a ships port hole!  I saw a similiar card made by fellow demonstrator Kari Metzger and just knew my Stamping Club members would love it!!

    Open-Sea-Mosaic

This card also features a very cool technique using your leftover rubber pieces, called Mosaic Tile Stamping. So gather up your rubber scraps and follow my tips or check out my video below.

1.PushPin-Note-Reminder-35 Dawn's Stamping Tips:  Mosaic Tile Stamping

    1. Cut some leftover rubber into small pieces of varying sizes
    2. Mount onto Acrylic Block E (or wood block).  Tip:  arrange pieces so pretty close to each other.
    3. Now ink it up with VersaMark ink
    4. Stamp it over an image you have already pre-stamped and colored
    5. Heat emboss with clear embossing powder and let cool
    6. Sponge Early Espresso over entire image (be sure to get into the "cracks")
    7. Wipe clean with a paper towel.
    8. Enjoy!

DOstamperSTARS Sketch Pad Challenge: Stampin' Up! On The Grow #SSC052

Yes, again with my favorite, Stampin' Up!'s On the Grow stamp set.  Are you getting sick of it yet?  I hope not.  Today's card is a Sketch Pad DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge...provided by Jan Carlson.  She does a great job with our sketches...thanks Jan!

With a sketch like this one, plus a simple and fast coloring technique (which I share below)...this card went together pretty fast!  Check it out...

    Flower#2b

The Designer Series Paper is called Elegant Soiree (#117163) and is retiring!  I'll be sad to see it go.  It's a beautiful paper and will be missed.  Be sure to get it now before it's gone for good on June 30th.

    Flower#2cu

So how did I color the flowers?

I know I didn't invent this technique.  But I don't know if there is a name for the "coloring technique" I used on the flowers. Maybe we can call it "Blended Lines".  Hmm...that sounds good, what do you think?  See below for my how-to tips...

    1.PushPin-Note-Reminder-35 Dawn's Stamping Tips - Blended Lines

    1.  Stamp a line image with Perfect Plum ink

    2.  Use a blender pen and immediately blend the lines of the flower images.  Meaning, pull the ink from the stamped flower lines inwards to "fill" the flower with color.  Act quickly before the ink dries.

    3.  Step it up, by adding Stampin' Up! Dazzling Diamonds Glitter to the flowers with a 2-Way Glue Pen
