Sweater Trim Ribbon & Orchard Harvest Fabric Drawstring Bags

I couldn't wait anymore to share today's project with you.  Back in July, when I got my first glimpse of the 2012 Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalog, one of the first new products that caught my eye was the adorable Sweater Trim Ribbon (pg 11).  I immediately thought it could be used as a drawstring of some kind.  Then I came upon the Orchard Harvest Designer Fabric (pg 30)and completely fell in love with it's bold design and autumn hues.  And bam, it hit me...Fabric Drawstring Bags!

stampin up, dostamping, dawn olchefske, demonstrator, sweater trim ribbon, orchard harvest fabric, drawstring bags

Aren't these stinkin' cute? These Fabric Drawstring Bags could be used for Thanksgiving party favors, birthday party goodie bags, gift wrap, kids game storage (like dominoes) and more!

My daughter, Angie had made some canvas goodie bags for the boy's birthday parties this spring and so I turned to her for her sewing expertise.  We don't have a pattern, but here's some tips:

  • To maximize the Orchard Harvest Designer Fabric, each bag needs two 5-3/4" x 8-1/4" squares.
  • You can get 9 squares from each 18" x 27" fat quarter.
  • Each package of fabric (total of 3 fat quarters), can make a total of 12 bags.
  • I washed and cut everything up.
  • Angie sewed them for me.  Essentially sewing up three sides and turning over the top for the Gumball Green Sweater Trim Ribbon drawstring.

We made 50 of them for the DOstamperSTARS Camp-a-Rama event this past August.  Each person received their very own Orchard Harvest Fabric Drawstring Bag with a few little goodies to tuck inside!

I love it when you get an idea and it comes out get exactly how you planned it.  That doesn't happen often.  But when it does...I just get giddy with excitement!

If you love this idea too, I've put together a chart to coordinate Stampin' Up! Designer Fabric with the 3 colors of Sweater Trim Ribbon

Guest Stamper Sunday: Laurie Zoellmer

DOstamperSTAR Laurie Zoellmer is my Guest Stamper today.  The one thing (among many) I like about Laurie is, she isn't afraid of trying new things.  Someone like myself, might say, I'll try that some day.  Not Laurie, she just dives right in and does it!  Like her first project, No Sew Fabric Paper Snip Holder.

stampin up, dostamping, dawn olchefske, demonstrator, laurie zoellmer, new sew, fabric paper snips holder, summer smooches designer fabric

First of all, Laurie chose the super cute Summer Smooches Designer Fabric - love it!  Plus, the beauty of this little holder is, it's cut with the Petal Cone Die.  I love her finishing touch of the flower (Blossoms Party Originals Die) and button.  She even put together a photo tutorial on her blog, so you can make one too!  See the link below.

This card is a perfect example of Laurie's stamping style, clean and simple (CAS).  It features the Lacy & Lovely (122885w or 122887c) and Betsy's Blossoms (126004w or 126006c) stamp sets.

I have to let you know...Laurie has been laid up for a couple weeks as she had surgery on her thumb.  She is on the mend, but it's been a struggle for her to stamp and prepare for her classes.  She hasn't asked for any help.  I even offered to help her with cutting for her classes and she said no, thanks.  It's gonna be a few more weeks before she's fully mended and back to her normal stamping activity.  So be sure to stop by her blog and give her some lovin'!

You can find her at Laurie's Stampin' Spot Blog and be sure to:

Thank you Laurie, for sharing your talent and love of Stampin' Up! with us!

Summer Smooches Designer Fabric Coffee Cozy

I totally fell in love with the new Summer Smooches Designer Fabric.  I think it's the cutest Stampin' Up! Designer Fabric so far!  Now, I'm not a sewer, but my daughter Angie is.  She made up some Summer Smooches Coffee Cozies for my last DOstamperSTARS meeting.

The adorable pink coffee cozy was a gift from my dear sweet friend and fellow Advisory Board Member, Missy Shipman.  She found the pattern at Skip to my Lou.  Missy used another adorable Stampin' Up! Designer Fabric, Twitterpated.  She added a cute little "tea bag pocket" detail on hers, so I had to too!

Spice Cake & Gently Falling Make & Takes

We had a fabulous DOstamperSTARS meeting last month with tons of sharing, recognition, swapping and of course, fun make & takes!

When I designed the make & takes for this meeting, I took inspiration from Shelli Gardner's (CEO & Co-Founder of Stampin' Up!) presentation at the 2011 Stampin' Up! Convention in July.  I totally fell in love with the new Spice Cake Collection & Gently Falling stamp set and LOVED her projects that featured them.  They are not an exact "case" of them, but very similiar.

Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Sneak Peak from the Controlfreaks

Welcome to the Control Freaks August 2011 Tour (officially starts August 20th). We are thrilled to have you join us today. Our tour is nice and short, and features some of your favorite Control Freaks Stampers, sharing projects made with Stampin' Up! products. In fact, if you started in the middle of the tour, you may have just come from fellow freaker and friend Barb Mullikin blog.

Our theme for this month is:  Stampin' Up! 2011 Holiday Mini Catalog Sneak Peaks

When I first saw the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog, I totally fell in love with the Spice Cake Collection.  I'm a "Autumn" kind of gal anyways - so that would make sense.  Stampin' Up! did a great job with this collection.  Giving the color combo an updated twist by adding a blue tone - Pool Party, Soft Suede, More Mustard, Peasr Pizzazz, River Rock and Very Vanilla.  Having said that - I used Baja Breeze for the blue in my projects today.  Not sure why, I just kinda grab it.  But guess what - it works!

I'm starting with an "It's a Wrap Holidays" card.  This stamp set was designed to fit on 1" x 2-5/8" size labels.  However, I stamped it on Very Vanilla cardstock to create my own "labels" for this card.

The "ribbon" is actually the Spice Cake Designer Fabric "ripped" in a 1" strip.  LOVE IT!!

My next project features another new product coming September 1st - Kraft Gift Box.  Four boxes for only $2.95 - it's a heck of a deal!!  I can see so many things fitting into these boxes.  They're sized 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 x 2-1/2.

I decorated it with Spice Cake Designer Series Paper, Designer Fabric and a Designer Button!  Here's a close up...

Here are the new items from the Stampin' Up! 2011 Holiday Mini Catalog you'll find in my projects above:

1. It's a Wrap Holidays stamp set
2. Spice Cake Designer Fabric
3. Spice Cake Designer Series Paper (on the box)
4. Spice Cake Designer Buttons
5. Kraft Gift Box

Additional Supplies used:

Ink and Cardstock: Soft Suede, More Mustard, Baja Breeze and Very Vanilla
Big Shot: Houndstooth Texture Impressions Embossing Folder
Other: Early Espresso 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon, Antique Brads, Stampin' Dimensionals, Glue Dots

Well, that wraps up this stop of the tour. I hope you enjoyed my Stampin' Up! 2011 Holiday Mini Catlaog sneak peak. Now on to more Stampin' Up! inspiration from my fellow Control Freak, Liz ShultzYou're gonna love her projects too!

Guest Stamper: Bobbi Peterson and Sew Suite Collection

You are in for a treat today!  When my Guest Stamper, Bobbi Peterson sent me her Sew Suite Collection cards, I had no doubt in my mind that the cards would be her usual outstanding work.  But when I opened her package...whoa, I couldn't believe my eyes.  Every card was better than the next one.  I couldn't decide which one was my favorite.  I loved them all and I think you will too!

Aren't they fabulous and creative?  Great job Bobbi.  For more inspiration from Bobbi, check out her "Out of the Box with Bobbi" blog (which she just started).  Thanks for sharing Bobbi!
