As I'm speaking to several people about the awesome FREE Big Shot promotion going on right now, I'm hearing some common questions.  Here's one I thought I share with you, as you might be thinking the same thing...

Do I have to do what you do?

The answer is a big fat NO!  In fact, one of the many things I LOVE ABOUT STAMPIN' UP! is that I get to run my business "MY WAY". After all, I'm the boss!! If I want to stamp in my pajamas, I can. If I want to take a day off and spend it with my grandchildren, I can. I often tell new demonstrators not to model their business after mine, but to find what works for them and their family. I encourage them to go to Stampin' Connection (a online community for Stampin' Up! demonstrators) to meet other demonstrators and discover how others run their businesses. Find little bits here and there, put their own twist on it and make it their own and run their business THEIR WAY!

In fact - Michelle Heikens, one of my DOstamperSTARS puts it this way...
"I like the ability to choose between hobbyist or true demo or anywhere in between depending on your time, interest and resources."

Well said Michelle and SO true.  That's the beauty of Stampin' Up! With our low quarterly minimums (only $300/quarter), anyone can join and it can ebb and flow with your life.

Join the FUN and get started NOW!

Controlfreak Tour: Petal Cone and Blossom Petals Love!

Blog Tour Pic

Welcome to the Control Freaks January 2010 Tour.  We are thrilled to have you join us today. I'm your 10th stop this month.  Our tour is nice and short, and features some of your favorite Control Freaks Stampers.  In fact, if you started in the middle of the tour, you may have just come from Wendy Janson's blog - welcome!

Our theme for this month is, From the Heart -- Cards, Gifts and Projects for Valentine's Day.

My projects this month focus on some of my favorites from Stampin' Up!'s 2011 Occasions Mini Catalog.  So let's get started!

First up...Petal Cone Die Heart Pouch!

Petal-Cone-Heart-Pouch

I love the way this turned out!

RubberstampBW Dawns Stamping Tips - for Petal Cone Heart

1.  I cut two Petal Cones with the Big Shot and left them flat.  (When you fold on all of the score lines, they'll make a "cone box").  When you don't fold them, they have a heart shape.  Just another great use for this fun die!!!

2.  Then I ran it back through the Big Shot with the Lots of Love Letterpress Plate.  I didn't use any ink, I just wanted the texture.  See close up below.

3.  Use Sticky Strip and 5/8" Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon to trim out the top of the heart pouch.

4.  Use Sticky Strip on the "tabs" to adhere two sides together.

5.  Decorate and enjoy! (see tips below)

Petal-Cone-Heart-CU

The flowers were created with the new Stampin' Up! Build a Blossom stamp set and matching Blossom Petals Punch.  I attached them to a 3/4" circle "base".  Then topped off with 1/2" circle and a Pearl Jewel.  The "love" is from Tiny Tags stamp set and punch with the Jewelry Tag Punch.  The ribbon trim is 5/8" Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon.

My next project is 3x3 Blossom Petals Valentine!

3x3-Scallop-Valentine

Yes - it's only 3x3.  The scallop square on the back is a carry-over die from the Holiday Mini Catalog called Scallop Squares Duo #120903 (it cuts two sizes of scallop squares...this one is the larger of the two).

Lightbulb1 I was giddy when I discovered it would fit in our Mini Square Envelopes #107309.  LOVE IT!!

I had fun adding the new Frames Tulips Texture Embossing Folder to the bottom of the card AND the flap on the envelope.  I sponged a little regal rose ink on the envelope to make it pop.

Group-Shot

Here's a group shot to give you a feel for the size of these projects.  The Petal Cone Heart Pouch measures about 6x6 and of course the Love Valentine is 3x3.

Colors for both projects include:  Pretty in Pink, Certainly Celery & Very Vanilla cardstock and Regal Rose and Old Olive Classic Ink

Well, that wraps up this stop of the tour.  I hope you enjoyed it.  Now on to more sneak peaks from my wonderfully talented friend, Barb Mullikin

Here's swap I received from one of my DOstamperSTARS, Sonya Tourville.  It uses the new 2011 Occasions Mini Catalog stamp set called, "XOXO" and the Letterpress Plate called, "Heart Press" (on the bottom part of the card).  Great card Sonya!

Need some simple cards? Letterpress Plates to the Rescue!

When Stampin' Up! came out with their new Letterpress Plates (in the Holiday Mini Catalog),  I thought - hmm...I don't know about these (in a sing song kinda voice).  But the more I played with them, the more I liked them.  Plus, in order to let these Letterpress Plate designs take main stage,  I feel like the cards should be clean and simple.  Like this one, that I did with my Big Shot Club this month.

Letterpress

After running through the Big Shot with the NEW Northern Trim Letterpress Plate (see instructions and video below) - add Pearl Jewels for the perfect finishing touch!

My mom would have liked this card.  It has a bit of a Scandinavian feel to it, which she loved.

Dawns Stamping Tips for Letterpress Plates
1.  Use porous paper (like watercolor paper).  For this card, I used Naturals Ivory
2.  Use CRAFT ink to ink your image on the Letterpress Plate.  I used Real Red and Old Olive Craft Stampin' Spots
3.  Place Letterpress Plate onto the Big Shot Multipurpose Platform (open to tab one)
4.  Place cardstock onto to Letterpress Plate
5.  Cover with "clean" (new or mainly cut free) Standard Cutting Plate
6.  Run through Big Shot Die Cutting Machine
7.  Watch LETTERPRESS PLATES VIDEO below for a demonstration and alignment tip

So, if you're interested in Clean and Simple card making, the Letterpress Plates would be the perfect tool for you!
