DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge #137: Wild About Flowers

It's time for another DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge.  This week we're having a Home Sweet Home challenge.

DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge #137

When I saw this week's Thursday Challenge, I was immediately drawn to the flower pots. So I decided to bring out the new Wild About Flowers stamp set again.

Wild About Flowers card by Dawn Olchefske for DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge #137 #dostamping #stampinup

I like the way the color pops against the neutral background.  The flowers were stamped (colors listed in supply list below), then punched with the NEW 1-1/2" Circle Punch.  Pop up on Stampin' Dimensionals.

Take a closer look...I added a little bit of texture.  Here's how:

  • Start with a piece of 4" x 5-1/4" Crumb Cake cardstock
  • With  4" side against the top of the Simply Scored board.  Score every 1/8" starting at 1", ending at 1-5/8" (total of six score lines)
  • Flip over (this will now be the front of the card)
  • Tie Linen Thread around twice, positioning under the grooved lines

I think it added a nice little touch.  Plus it reminds me of the "siding" in the challenge photo.  So, what do you it?

Enjoy~Dawn O

Perfect Peacock Anniversary

Perfect Peacock Anniversary card by Dawn Olchefske #dostamping #stampinup

If ever there was an image begging to be colored, it's this majestic peacock on a branch. The Perfect Peacock stamp is not a typical image I would purchase.   As much as it begs to be colored, it's really too much coloring for me.  However, a dear friend of my collects peacocks and I just had to get it!

Perfect Peacock Anniversary card by Dawn Olchefske #dostamping #stampinup

This past weekend she and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. So I finally put stamp to paper and did a little experimenting with coloring.  As coloring is not my forte, it did take a couple tries.  Initially, I embossed the peacock in gold (for their 50th) and started coloring.  But the color wasn't popping the way I had hoped it would.  So "take two" seemed to work and here's what I did:

  • Start with a 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" piece of Shimmery White cardstock (it's my preferred paper to use when I'm coloring with water...notice I didn't say watercolor.  I'm so not a watercolorer!)
  • Stamp Perfect Peacock with Versamark ink and heat emboss with Clear Embossing Powder.
  • Color using Aqua Painters (I prefer mine a bit more on the dry side, so I have more control)
    • Color wash peacock with Tempting Turquoise ink, let dry
    • Add details to feathers/body with Island Indigo and Elegant Eggplant inks
    • Color wash flower with Wisteria Wonder ink, let dry
    • Add details to flowers with Elegant Eggplant
    • Color wash leaves with Pear Pizzazz ink, let dry
    • Add details to leaves with Old Olive ink
    • I did add another layer of Island Indigo ink to the feathers, as I wanted the color to be a little more intense

I'm pleased as a peacock on how this turned out (I know, I could resist)!  It did take a little time to find what would work, but once I got in my coloring rhythm, it went pretty fast.  I would make another one (if the occasion called for it).

Actually, I thought the peacock could be stamped in a single color and would make great thank you cards. Hmm...I think I'll have to put some together for her.

Triple Time Stamping Video: Creative Elements and NEW Naturals Designer Buttons

I've recently rearranged my stamping room and office, combining them together (lovin' it!).  While I was cleaning and reorganizing, I came across some old projects from when I first was introduced to Stampin' Up! 10 years ago.  In addition, I came across a card online that reminded of this technique and I thought I'd bring it "back from the past"!

My "old" project featured a technique that was shared with me at one of the first Stampin' Up! parties I attended.  Stamping all three layers at the same time.  When you "pull them apart", you could use them on different projects, scrapbook pages or all on the same card.  Kind of a play on the Double Time Stamping Technique.  I don't think there was a name for it back then, so I'm referring to it as Triple Time Stamping

The card below is one of the projects we did for my Monthly Stamping Club last week.  It features the Easy Triple Time Stamping Technique.  It was a huge hit!!  FYI - my stamping club is available for online club members too!  Join anytime!

The dimensions are as follows:

Very Vanilla

  • 2" x 3-1/4"
  • 3" x 4-1/4"
  • 4" x 5-1/4"

Early Espresso

  • 2-1/4" x 3-1/2"
  • 3-1/4" x 4-1/2"
  • 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" (fold for card base)

But you'll want to check out the video for tips on stamping and assembling today's card.

New Stampin' Up!: World Treasures Samples

Well, I was going to have a new video for you today.  But it needed a section re-taped.  However, lawn maintenance got in the way.  What can I say, it must be the day for everyone to get out their mowers, weed wackers and chainsaws.  Maybe I'll try again on Monday.

So instead, I'll share one of my pillow gifts from the Stampin' Up! DisneyWorld incentive trip.  A delightful stamp set called World Treasures.  It's one of many new products in the 2012-2013 Annual Catalog.  I fell in love with it right away.  I'm always on the lookout for peacocks, as my best friend collects thems.

World Treasures Clear-Mount Stamp Set

I also wanted to try out the new Stampin' Up! firm foam Stampin' Pads.  So I reached for Midnight Muse for this card.  Take a look...

stampin up, dostamping, dawn olchefske, demonstrator, world treasurers

Let me tell you...I LOVE the new Stampin' Pads.  The firm foam pad really made a difference in my stamping experience.  As the peacock is a larger stamp, I would have typically spent a good amount of time to twist, tap, tap, tap and twist and tap some more to get good ink coverage.  Not with the new firm foam.  Just a "Goldilock's touch" will do.  You know...not too hard, not too soft, somewhere in the middle.  Plus just a couple taps is all you need.  Then ooh - the look on cardstock is just wonderful.  In addition it is much more opaque - love it!
