No Bones About It: Black Magic with a Twist!

I'm making the shift from flowers to dinosaurs this week with Black Magic with a Twist.  I wanted to show you something outside-the-box with this technique and thought the No Bones About It stamp set would be fun to work with...and it was!

No Bones About It: Black Magic with a Twist!

1. Randomly stamp dinosaurs with Whisper White Craft ink on 4" x 5-1/4" Basic Black cardstock.
2. Use Watercolor Pencils in "combos" to color each dinosaur (color with lighter one, then add details with darker one):
   • Bermuda Bay & Pacific Point
   • Melon Mambo & Rich Razzleberry
   • Daffodil Delight & Pumpkin Pie
   • Old Olive & Early Espresso
   • Play around with different color combos
3. Use White Chalk Marker to add dots for the "twist".
4. Stamp greeting with Memento Tuxedo Black ink on scrap of Old Olive cardstock.  Die cut with Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlits Die.  Adhere with SNAIL and staple.
5. Adhere completed panel to folded 11" x 4-1/4" Old Olive card base.

Petal Potpourri, Lovely Amazing You & SAB In Color Accessory Pack

I received my Lovely Amazing You Photopolymer Stamp Set the other day and had to crack it open right away.  I'm totally lovin' the font for the greetings plus you can't go wrong with feathers too (another image in this set).  I immediately put it into action with these two cards, pairing it with the Occasions stamp set, Petal Potpourri and the new SAB In Color Accessory Pack.  Check it out... 

 

This is the first one I made, inspired by a card a saw on Pinterest.  I like the basic layout, but I wanted to take it up a notch.  Sometimes I need a "practice" card first before I start to get the feel of a stamp set.  Do you do that too?

By turning the "side stamped panel" into a tag, I get a completely different look to the card.  Now I'm really happy with the card - it makes me smile.  I hope it makes you smile tool, as it's one of the cards included in my March Just Cards Buffet TO GO class that will be ready to purchase tomorrow (Thursday, 3/19)...stop back then.

If you look closely, you'll notice a strip of Stacked With Love Designer Series Paper Stack.  I'm lovin' this paper that is not just for Valentine's Day.  When you flip it over - ALL the designs are black & white.  I added Hello Honey ink with a sponge dauber, creating a custom paper for my project.

Speaking of Pinterest...Meet Linda B

My sister introduced me to Pinterest 3 years ago. At that same time I moved to a new town/state and was looking for something to fill my time (I am an empty nester now). I saw some cute Christmas cards (SU stamp set) and thought I would like to try that. Needless to say, I was hooked. I was spending so much, I thought I would become a demo to save money. Stampin' Blendabilities Markers Update

There has been quality issues with the Stampin' Blendabilities Marker line. Due to the nature of the defect, Stampin' Up! has concluded that difficulties, dissatisfaction, and product returns will only become more widespread. The manufacturer is unable to correct the problem in a manner that Stampin' Up! is certain would meet our high quality standards and provide us with a stable, long-term solution. Therefore, after a great deal of deliberation and in order to prevent further disappointment, the Blendabilities product line has been discontinued. 

Blendabilities Q & A

Q: Will the Tuxedo Black Memento Pad (item #132708) and the Tuxedo Black Memento Pad Refill (item #133456) still be available for purchase?
A: Yes. These items will continue to be available for purchase.  (The Tuxedo Black Memento Ink Pad is my personally my favorite go-to black ink.)

Q: What are the quality problems with this product?
A: When the tip is welded to the barrel, the welding process can leave microscopic (invisible) holes in the marker tip. This leads to accelerated evaporation of the alcohol in the ink.

Q: Are all Blendabilities markers defective?
A: No. Most Blendabilities markers work as intended.  For me, I've only experience a couple of markers drying out, and a few customers have experienced that as well.    

Q: What if I have Blendabilities markers that are defective?  
A: If you ordered them with me, please email me and I will take care of you!

Personal Note:  As disappointed as I am that Stampin' Up! will no longer be carrying this product, I'm proud to be associated with a company that is brave enough to pull a popular product.

DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge #117: Beautiful Lotus

It's time for another DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge.  This week we're having a Color Challenge!  

This week's color combo just screamed flowers (at least to me).  So I pulled out the brand new Lotus Photopolymer stamp set (a free Sale-a-Bration choice with a $50 order) and literally just started stamping.  Usually I hmm and haw about layouts and such.  But as I was short on time, I told myself...just play with the image and see what comes.  And boy - it happened fast.  The card came together just like that and I'm lovin' the results.  I may have to talk to myself like that more often - ha! 

Lotus Stamping Tips:

Let's talk a little bit about this unique stamp set.  Why do I say unique?  For a couple of reasons.  

1. It's a 3-step stamp set
2. The stamp sheet it comes on has #'s for each of the stamps so you know which order to stamp them in
3. The stamps have a "positioning tab" on them (mount on the block with tab facing in the "north" position) - helps to position all three stamps correctly
4. The stamping is all backwards.  At least from the way I used to teach about 2-step stamping.  I generally teach people to start with the lighter color first, then stamp the dark color.  However since it's photopolymer, a see-thru clear stamp - you actually start dark and work to the lighter color.

Here's what I did :

• Image #1 is stamped with Blackberry Bliss
• Image #2 is stamped with Rose Red
• Image #3 is first inked with Rose Red, stamp off on scratch paper first, then without reinking - stamp to complete the flower image
