Stamping with the STARS #406 Sketch: Best Day with Paper Piecing

I really thought I was going to use a floral set with this sketch - as the sketch itself looks beautiful.  But I've been itchin' to use the Best Day stamp set, so decided to give that a try.

 

And it did not disappoint...I love the way it turned out!  I think the addition of the fun colors from the Enjoy the Journey Designer Series Paper really helped make this card pop.  The "back" side of the paper has some really fun patterns, great for birthday cards.

How'd She DO That? Best Day Birthday card

• Stamps:  Best Day
• Paper:
  • Mango Melody (11" x 4-1/4" card base) 
  • Basic White  (3-1/2" square for largest circle - stamp first then die cut)
  • So Saffron (1-1/4" x 2-1/2" for sentiment banner - stamp first then die cut)
  • Enjoy the Journey Designer Series Paper (4" x 5-1/4", 2-3/4 square for circle die cut, 1" x 2" for cupcake liner, scrap to fussy cut hat, balloon, bow tie)
• Ink:  Tuxedo Black Memento

DOstamping Paper Piecing Tips:

• For the Paper Piecing Technique, it's best to choose paper that has smaller patterns.
• The "back" side of the Enjoy the Journey Designer Series Paper (DSP) is a good choice (see below)
• Just stamp on scraps of DSP and fussy cut out images with Paper Snips.
• Pick up cut pieces with sticky end of the Take Your Pick tool and adhere with Multipurpose Liquid Glue.

Stamping with the STARS #404: Rubberbands, Milkshakes & Kissing!

With a headline like that, did I get your attention?

The DOstamperSTARS are excited to bring you another Stamping with the STARS Inspiration Hop #DOswts405.  This week we're happy to share Rubberband Stamping Technique Inspiration with you.

Last fall, one of my team members, Beverly Jackson demonstrated the Rubberband Stamping Technique at our monthly DOstamperSTARS Zoom get-together.  It's been on my mind ever since then and I thought it would make a great theme for a Stamping with the STARS hop. So here we are!

The inspiration for my card...We have a local restaurant, the 50's Grill, and it's exactly what you might think.  Servers in pink & black, hamburgers, fries, homemade food (the best pot pies) and ice cream.  It's one of favorites - especially for birthdays! 

My grandkids like to get a Mint Chocolate Shake.  It's fun to see it brought to the table with all of the chocolate swirls showing through the glass.  So that's what I thought of for the Rubberband Stamping Technique.  

How'd She DO That? Share a Mint Chocolate Milkshake Tent card

• Bundle:  Share a Milkshake
• Paper:
  • Mint Macaron (4-1/4" x 8-1/2" card base scored at 4-1/4") 
  • Basic White (2-1/2" x 3-5/8", 5/8" x 2-1/8 for sentiment, scraps for whip cream, straw, cherry, tall glass die cuts) 
  • Early Espresso (2-7/8" x 4", scrap for chocolate die cut)
  • Country Gingham 6" x 6" Designer Series Paper (4" square) 
• Ink:  Mint Macaron, Early Espresso, Melon Mambo
• Other:  Mini Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine, Opaque Adhesive-Backed Gems, Stampin' Seal, Glue Dots & Stampin' Dimensionals

 

So...what does Rubberbands, Milkshakes & Kissing have to do with each other?  Good question.  See my tips below.

DOstamping Tips:

1. Ink tall glass image with Mint Macaron ink, then stamp off on scratch paper.  DON'T STAMP ONTO PROJECT YET.
2. Wrap a couple of rubberbands around Block C - let some of them twist.
3. Ink up rubberbands with Early Espresso ink, then stamp off on scratch paper. 
4. This is where the kissing comes in...press the inked rubberbands onto the tall glass inked image.  Repeat until you get the look you're going for - I "kissed" 3 times in various places.
5.  Breathe onto image (to remoisten), then stamp onto scrap of white. 
6. Viola...a mint chocolate milkshake!

I love the way this Share a Milkshake & Rubberband Stamping Technique card turned out.  I think the boys would approve.

Embedded Embossed: Stunning Sale-a-Bration Favored Flowers Cards

How'd She DO That? Embedded Embossed Favored Flowers cards

• Stamps:  Go To Greetings
• Paper:
  • Your Choice (11" x 4-1/4" card base) - Petal Pink, Mossy Meadow, Calypso  Coral or Fresh Freesia,
  • Basic Black (4" x 5-1/4") 
  • Basic White (3/4" x 3-1/4" - prior to punching end)
  • Favored Flowers Designer Series Paper (DSP) (scraps) FREE with $50 order during Sale-a-Bration - ends 2/28
• Ink:  Your Choice - Calypso Coral, Mossy Meadow or Fresh Freesia

As I have lots of cards to make each month, I try to keep them quick & cute, which is my style anyways.  Despite the look of these cards, the featured Embedded Embossed Technique is quite easy to create.  It's actually an oldie, but goodie technique from the past. 

 

The key to this technique is the embossing folder.  When I saw the new Cane Weave 3D Embossing Folder, I immediately thought of the Embedded Emboss technique.  Back in the day, we used punched out shapes to "embed".  However, the Favored Flower DSP & Fragrant Flowers Dies (also available in a bundle with the Fragrant Flowers stamp set) create the perfect shapes for this technique.

 

DOstamping Tips:

1. Use both large and small flower die shapes (from Fragrant Flower Dies) to die cut flowers from Sale-a-Bration Favored Flowers Designer Series Paper. 
   • Be sure to die cut any partial flowers from the edges too, as they are perfect for this technique. 
   • Optionally:  You could fussy cut them out instead of die cutting - if that's your thing. 
2. Onto black panel, adhere a large flower die cut into the lower corner (or grouping flowers).  Trim off any excess from edges.
3. Use Cane Weave 3D Embossing Folder & Stampin' Cut & Emboss Marchione to add texture to entire panel.
4. Adhere a smaller die cut to card with Stampin' Dimensionals.  Trim off any excess from edges.
5. Adhere panel to folded card base
6. Stamp and punch end of sentiment strip.  Adhere with Stampin' Dimensionals.
7. Finish off with Iridescent Rhinestones

 

As some of the partial die cuts will be flat on the left edges, play with the placement of the flowers.  Mix & match colors too!

Stamping with the STARS #DOswts391: Decorated with Happiness Holiday Card

The DOstamperSTARS are excited to bring you another Stamping with the STARS Inspiration Hop #DOswts391.  This week we're sharing Christmas in July inspiration with you.

I've been itchin' to use the new Decorated with Happiness Bundle and today was the perfect opportunity to showcase it.  When I first saw the Jul-Dec 2022 Mini Catalog, I was immediately drawn to it.  And...it did not disappoint!

 

How'd She DO That? Decorated with Happiness card

• Stamps/Bundle:  Decorated with Happiness Bundle (includes Decorated Pines Dies)
• Paper:
  • Pool Party (8-1/2" x 5-1/2" card base scored at 4-1/4") 
  • Basic White (4” x 5-1/4”) 
  • Basic White (scraps for ornaments)
• Ink: Garden Green, Real Red, Pool Party
• Other:  Mini Stampin' Cut & Emboss, Decorated Pines Dies, Festive Pearls, Stampin' Seal, Mini Stampin' Dimensionals

 

DOstamping Tips:

• All of the ornament "outline" images were stamped with Real Red ink, on Basic White cardstock.
• The key to this card is the Stamping Off Technique. 
  • Ink up the "fill-in" images, then stamp once (or twice) on a scratch paper, then stamp inside outline images to create a lighter version of the ink color.
• Have fun playing  around with a variety of coordinating colors!
• And...don't forget the embellishments.  The new Festive Pearls were the perfect touch (includes Real Red, Silver, Gold & Soft Succulent).

 

I did this card for a swap with my DOstamperSTARS Team.  One of the many activities we do throughout the year.  I did wafflle between which direction to go with, portrait or landscape.

Stamping with the STARS #373: Retiform Technique Christmas Season

The DOstamperSTARS are excited to bring you another Stamping with the STARS Inspiration Hop #DOswts373.  This week we're sharing a stamping technique called Retiform.

 The word Retiform means (I had to look it up): 

1. having the form of or resembling a net
2. composed of crossing lines and an intervening spaces

This was definitely a challenge for my STARS Team (and myself).  But after a couple of tries, we all got it.  For me, I tried two different ways of creating the intersecting sections and found one way much easier to do.  I will make a video on how to do it and will share it soon.

Here's my Christmas Season Retiform Technique card...

How'd She DO That? Painted Christmas Retiform card

• Stamps:  Christmas Season, Christmas to Remember
• Paper:
  • Evening Evergreen (5-1/2" x 8-1/2" card base)  
  • Basic White (4" x 5-1/4" and scrap for sentiment)
• Ink:  Evening Evergreen, Soft Suede, Cherry Cobbler
• Other:  Sponge Daubers, Simply Elegant Trim, Stampin' Seal, Stampin' Dimensionals & Sticky Notes for masking

Now that I have the Retiform Stamping Technique "mastered" - I will definitely be doing it again.  Give it a try - you'll feel like an artist.  My husband thought I "air-sprayed" the lines.   They were sponged, using a sponge dauber and straight-edge paper for "masking".
