Stampin' Up! Retiring: Vintage Vogue (and Black Magic)

One of my most popular "How'd She DO That?" videos uses the soon-to-be-retiring Vintage Vogue stamp set.  It's the perfect stamp set for the Black Magic Stamping Technique, which is the subject of the video found here.

In fact - there are several items on this card that are retiring that you may want to get before they are gone, gone, gone.

  1. Vintage Vogue stamp set (117690w or 118598c)
  2. Fluerettes II (115604)
  3. Ovals Die (114525)
  4. Cutter Kit (106958)

NOTE:  The designer paper, ribbon and flower punch have retired in previous years.

More "You are Loved" Stampin' Up! Swaps

Here are a couple more swaps I received using the Stampin' Up! 2011 Holiday Mini stamp set, You Are Loved.  Both use a similiar color combo, featuring Cherry Cobbler and both share a vintage-type feel to them.

Labels Collection Framelit, Stampin' Up! Advisory Board Invite

As some of you know - I was selected to serve on Stampin' Up!'s Advisory Board this year.  A couple weeks ago, I received an invitation in the mail.  I opened it up and WOW...look at this beautiful card.

AB-Lunch-Invite

The invitation is for the 2012 Advisory Board Reunion Luncheon, which takes place during the annual Stampin' Up! Leadership Conference.  Woohoo - I'm just so honored to be included in this group.  I'm looking forward to see my fellow advisory board members and give them a big hug!

So - did you figure out what is new on this card?  There are two new items on this card.  One is a wheel image called Chamomile.  It's kinda hidden, but it's there on the left side of the Cherry Cobber panel.

But the most exciting new product is...drumroll please...Label Collection Framelits, for the Big Shot.  Oh my gosh - these are so cool.  Many demonstrators & customers have been asking for these and Stampin' Up! heard you!  Beginning January 4th, you'll be able to get these new products (and Heart Collection Framelits too), when the 2012 Occasions Mini Catalog is released!

I can't get enough of this fun "V-Latch" card.  Today I'm using the Sneak Peak Four Frames stamp set and paired it with the current Elements of Style stamp set.  They look great together - a wonderful match!

October 2010 Control Freaks Tour: Celebrating the Holidays with Stampin' Up!

Blog Tour Pic

Welcome to the October 2010 Tour de Freaks Blog Hop! We are so excited to have you join us today.  This month, I'm the 8th stop on the tour featuring projects for the upcoming Holidays made with products from Stampin' Up!.   Our tour is nice and short and features some of your favorite Control Freaks Stampers. You may have just come from Debbie Currier - welcome!

I'm excited to show you today's project.  My daughter Angie sews (she didn't get that from me).  So, I asked her if she could make something with Stampin' Up!'s new Designer Fabric.  Look what she made...a Wine Bottle Holder!   A great hostess gift for the holidays.  Quick and easy according to Angie!

The holder was made with the Deck the Halls Designer Fabric and Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding.  The bottom was cut with the Scallop Circle Die, then a "tube" of fabric was attached to it.  Didn't she do a great job?!

I added a Crumb Cake tag cut with the Two Tags Die (can't get enough of that die - it's a must have).  I stamped and colored (with inks and blender pen) an image from the Holiday Mini stamp set, Bells and Boughs.  The Merry Christmas was stamped with Stazon Jet Black ink on vellum and wrapped around the tag.  It's attached to the holder with a pin and button from Vintage Trinkets.

My next project is a card made with Bells and Boughs, and the beautiful Deck the Halls Designer Series Paper.

Ok, so I'm not much of a watercolor kind of gal.  But I've been practicing and I think this came out pretty good (for me).  I used a blender pen and ink (Cherry Cobbler, Crumb Cake, Certainly Celery, Always Artichoke and Early Espresso), and watercolor paper.  The ribbon/bow is Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding.  Cardstock is Cherry Cobbler and Crumb Cake.

Well, that's it for me.  I hope you enjoyed this stop on the Controlfreaks Tour.  Now it's on to the next stop.  Give a big welcome new freak, Renee Van Stralen!

June Control Freaks Tour: Newsprint Designer Series Paper

Blog Tour Pic

Welcome to the June 2010 Tour de Freaks Blog Hop! We are so excited to have you join us today, as it's our one-year anniversary! This month, I'm the 12th stop on the tour featuring projects made with sneak peak products from the 2010-2011 Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog.  Our tour is nice and short and features some of your favorite Control Freaks Stampers. You may have just come from my friend Lee Ann Greff's awesome website.

My project today features the new vintage themed stamp set called Artistic Etchings and an awesome new Designer Series Paper called Newsprint.  In addition, I'm using a new level three hostess set called Occasional Quotes (a must have!)

A little background for my project.  I used to play piano.  Yep...and I was quite good.  I actually started my college education pursuing a degree in Piano Performance.  My talents were in classical music, plus I was an excellent site reader.  Why am I telling you this?  Because one of the reasons I'm loving the new NEWSPRINT DSP is because it has music on one of the designs.  I knew I had to use this paper, but what to do?.

This time of year brings back memories of piano recitals.  Memorizing music (which I dreaded), dressing up, getting my hair done and of course, a gift for the piano teacherWith all of the gifts teachers receive this time of year, they will definitely be in need of Thank You Notes (notes, get it...for a piano teacher.  I crack myself up!).  So, I thought these would fit the bill.

Notes1

Notes2

Here's a set of four Thank You Notes.  I thought I would make them all identical.  But I couldn't decided on the Crumb Cake (formerly Kraft) or Very Vanilla for the cardbase and greeting.  So I mixed them up on each card.  I'm leaning towards the two in the top photo.

Now - how to package them?  Well, back in my piano lesson days...I would just use wrapping paper.  So that gave me the idea to use the Newsprint Designer Paper as wrapping paper.  But of course, I had to step it up a little.  So I created a quick little "wrap box" .

Here's the Musical Notes Wrap Box

Wrap-Box

Here's the open view - I'm so lovin' how this turned out.  Anyone out there play piano?

Tour De Freaks May Tour: Elements of Style

Blog Tour Pic

Welcome to the May 2010 Tour de Freaks Blog Hop! We are so excited to have you join us today! This month, I'm the 1st stop on the tour featuring projects made with products from the 2010 Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Catalog.  Our tour is nice and short and features some of your favorite Control Freaks Stampers. In fact, you may have just "made the loop" and came from Mary Brown's awesome website.

My project today features a Shelli favorite, Elements of Style stamp set.  I know, you've probably seen tons of samples of this set.  But I wanted to do something a little different.  Most projects I've seen have lots of vintage details and I wanted more of a clean and simple look.  I love how it turned out!

So here's my Elements of Style Hostess Gift Card Pack (received by my workshop hostesses this past month)

Gift-Card-Envelope

Butterfly

Includes:
2 full size cards w/envelopes
2 love note size cards w/envelopes

Floral

I colored the images with Q-tips.  Yes, that's right...Q-tips.  I first tried using Stampin' Pastels to color them in, but thought it looked too soft.  So what the heck...I already had the Q-tips out.  I gave it a try and LOVE the look of it!  Plus - super easy to do!!

For more information about coloring with Q-tips check out this post:  http://dostamping.typepad.com/dostamping_with_dawn/2010/05/qtip-stamping-details-dawn-we-want-details.html

Watercolor Pencils Technique Video: Black Magic (w/a Twist)

Get out your Watercolor Pencils for a fabulous and EASY technique called Black Magic!  I came across a beautiful card featuring this Black Magic technique on Stampin' Connection (an online community for Stampin' Up! demonstrators), made by Karen Barber.  I featured the technique at my April Technique Class and my Stamping Club Members loved it and I'm sure you will too!!

Isn't it GORGEOUS?!  I added the Fleurettes II to enhance the vintage look.  The ovals are the wide oval punch and two sizes from the Ovals die for the Big Shot.

This card actually features the added "twist" for the technique.  The video below shows a comparison of the Black Magic Technique with and without the Twist.
