New Video: BAM Stamping with French Foliage

"Autumn Spice" up your card making with BAM stamping!  Create this beautiful, yet EASY stamping technique by taking a nod from Emeril.

DOS003-Gratitude

When I was designing this French Foliage card I needed to keep in mind that I was going to be making 40 of them for an upcoming swap.  I wanted the collage look, without having to stamp each of the images separately (which was just too many steps for 40 cards).  To solve that...I mounted all of my images onto Stampin' Up!'s clear block (E).

Collage-Block

Dawns BAM Stamping Technique
1.  Ink up stamp with Cajun Craze ink
2.  "Hit" (BAM) the inked up stamp with Early Espresso ink.

Tip: only "BAM" it once.  If you BAM it twice, you get BAM, BAM.  And you want Emeril, not the Flintstones!

3.  Stamp onto Very Vanilla cardstock
4.  Optional - sponge edges with Early Espresso
5.  Optional - sponge Cajun Craze ink over stamped images, leaving some "white" space
6.  Optional - sponge More Mustard into the remaining "white" spaces

By the way - this was one of the FREE make & take cards we've been doing at my workshops and clubs this past month.  Just image all of the BAMming going on!  It's been a huge hit and tons of fun to see everyone experience their own BAM!

Tour De Freaks May Tour: Elements of Style

Blog Tour Pic

Welcome to the May 2010 Tour de Freaks Blog Hop! We are so excited to have you join us today! This month, I'm the 1st stop on the tour featuring projects made with products from the 2010 Stampin' Up! Summer Mini Catalog.  Our tour is nice and short and features some of your favorite Control Freaks Stampers. In fact, you may have just "made the loop" and came from Mary Brown's awesome website.

My project today features a Shelli favorite, Elements of Style stamp set.  I know, you've probably seen tons of samples of this set.  But I wanted to do something a little different.  Most projects I've seen have lots of vintage details and I wanted more of a clean and simple look.  I love how it turned out!

So here's my Elements of Style Hostess Gift Card Pack (received by my workshop hostesses this past month)

Gift-Card-Envelope

Butterfly

Includes:
2 full size cards w/envelopes
2 love note size cards w/envelopes

Floral

I colored the images with Q-tips.  Yes, that's right...Q-tips.  I first tried using Stampin' Pastels to color them in, but thought it looked too soft.  So what the heck...I already had the Q-tips out.  I gave it a try and LOVE the look of it!  Plus - super easy to do!!

For more information about coloring with Q-tips check out this post:  http://dostamping.typepad.com/dostamping_with_dawn/2010/05/qtip-stamping-details-dawn-we-want-details.html

No Cutting Pads? No Problem...Dr Seuss to the Rescue

Hmm...ever have one of THOSE days?  I seem to be having them more and more often lately.  Which means I find myself REALLY having to think outside the box, a LOT!

Case in point:

What do you do when you've planned a super cute make & take project using the Big Shot & a Stampin' Up! Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, AND you forget your cutting pads at home?

Well - after several tries of Tab 1, Tab 2, no tabs, and some creative "shims"...Dr Suess comes to the rescue!  Specifically, The Foot Book!  Check this out...

Big-Shot-Cutting-Pads1

Just insert the Embossing Folder between the pages of your favorite Dr Seuss book (actually - use your not-so-favorite book) and voila!  FYI - Golden Books don't work (trust me)!

Big-Shot-Cutting-Pads2

Luckily my hostess, Kim has a great sense of humor.  It certainly made for an entertaining party!

OK - now that I have humbled myself before the online world.  I can't be the only one who forgets things at home (I'm not, am I?)  Make me feel better and share your stories of crafting ingenuity!

Say...don't forget to book your Sale-a-Bration party now, before it's too late!  I promise - I won't forget the cutting plates.

Humbly yours,
Dawn Olchefske
